A lot of kids find a visit to the dentist scary or overwhelming. At Markham Dental Clinic, your child’s comfort is our priority. We’ll do everything we can to help your child feel safe and looked after and we’ll try our best to make the experience fun, too.
The Canadian Dental Association recommends your kids see a dentist by their first birthday, or within 6 months of their first tooth; whichever comes first. The idea is to assess your child’s teeth and general oral health before they develop any issues. Regular dental exams help us ensure the oral hygiene routine you practice with your kids at home is doing everything it’s supposed to do.
Typically, we’ll recommend visiting the dentist every 6 months after your child’s first appointment, however, that may vary depending on your child’s needs. Be sure to listen to your dentist and follow their recommendations.
Some parents think that, because baby teeth are temporary, they don’t need as much care and attention as adult teeth. Taking proper care of your child’s baby teeth is crucial, and sets them up for a lifetime of strong dental health.
Teeth aren’t just for chewing; they’re an important part of speech and even muscle and bone development. Your child’s temporary teeth are like placeholders for their adult teeth. If they lose a baby tooth too early, it could cause the adult teeth under the gumline to drift into the wrong spot, and cause alignment problems when they grow up.
We would love to meet you at our Unionville office. We’re located on Highway 7, right next to the Shopper’s Drug Mart.
