Caring For Your Dentures

Hygiene

Even though dentures are not real teeth, it’s still important to care for them the way you would for your natural teeth. Clean your dentures regularly with cleansing solution or gel to prevent plaque build-up and to do away with any food debris.

Diet

It will most likely take some time to acclimate to your new dentures, so it’s best to begin slowly in terms of food. Start with small meal portions, and be patient with yourself. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water, as dentures have been known to cause dry mouth.

Time Off

You cannot wear your dentures 24 hours a day; you need to spend at least 6 hours without them every 24 hour period. Most patients choose not to sleep with their dentures in. If you take your dentures out at night, be sure to store them in cleanser or a denture box.
